Kelsey Heiden

  • She graduated from Texas State University as a Recreation Administration major and is currently completing her Master of Public Administration at Southern New Hampshire University.
  • She is a certified Parks and Recreation Professional through the National Recreation and Park Association.
  • She was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas and is passionate about serving her hometown and making an impact on health and wellness through Das Rec.
  • Kelsey actively participates in Spartan Races.
  • Her favorite color is mango tango.

Shelly Basaldu

Guest Services and Marketing Supervisor
  • She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin as an Advertising major...hook 'em!
  • She was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas and while Austin will always have a place in her heart, she is happy to be back in this beautiful, growing, ever-changing city.
  • She is incredibly excited to not only work at Das Rec, but to be a member as well. She's most excited to participate in group exercise classes.
  • She can name all of the United States in alphabetical order.
  • Her favorite food is chicken fried steak.
  • Her favorite place that she has visited in the U.S. is San Francisco, California.

Julia Shelley

  • Received her degree in Communication emphasizing in Mass Communication.
  • Started as a lifeguard at Dixie State University and worked her way up to Assistant Aquatics Director and before becoming the Aquatics Director.
  • Wanted to work at Das Rec because of the state of the art aquatic features and love of teaching the community about water safety and fun. Favorite part of my job is teaching lifeguarding classes and coaching swim teams.
  • She was a sideline basketball reporter and sports anchor in college.
  • Her favorite swim race is the 500 freestyle.
  • She is an avid San Antonio Spurs fan.

Stephanie Chelar

Athletic and Fitness Supervisor
  • She has her Masters of Science in Public Health and has been in the fitness industry for 20 years.
  • She enjoys finding a solution to each and every person’s “why” and helping them find a way to incorporate fitness into their lives in some form or another.
  • Group fitness is how she got started in her career and will be something she plans to continue to do for the duration of her career. She believes you are never too old to learn new formats and to try new things
  • She is one of the .03% of the world who has hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim.
  • One of her favorite quotes is “Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.” She thinks everyone needs to have a little fun in their lives, whether at work or at home.
  • She has competed in two figure competitions and enjoys trying new workouts and challenging herself, while learning to challenge others in the process.

Josh King

Building Maintenance Supervisor
  • He has 15 years of experience in the maintenance field.
  • He began his career with the City of New Braunfels in 2013 as a Maintenance Technician in the Parks and Recreation department.
  • He is originally from San Marcos, Texas.
  • He is the person you want on your trivia team...he knows a lot about a lot of things.
  • People seem to like him because he is polite and he is rarely late.
  • His favorite color is vivid tangerine.
